Meet The Team

Jonathan Collier serves as the Vice President of Mobile Medicine for Advocate Health in Charlotte, North Carolina—one of the nation’s largest integrated nonprofit health systems, with hospitals and services across North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Illinois, Alabama, and Wisconsin. In this role, Jonathan oversees a broad portfolio of services supporting Advocate Health, communities, and patients. These services include air and ground medical transport under the respected brands MedCenter Air, AirCare, Floyd EMS, Fort Mill EMS, and Navicent EMS. Other nation leading services include Mobile Integrated Health/Hospital at Home, transfer centers and communications, Med-1 mobile disaster response, EMS/911 operations, and general operational oversight.

Jonathan brings 24 years of senior and executive leadership experience in the air medical and transport industries, having held key roles with Apollo MedFlight, Air Methods, PHI Air Medical, Summit Air Ambulance, and Rocky Mountain Helicopters. Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to developing safe, high-quality and mission driven operations. and is known for assembling exceptional teams, shaping organizational strategy, strengthening relationships with healthcare systems, and fostering cultures rooted in service and accountability.

He attributes his success to influential mentors and the meaningful professional relationships he has built within and beyond the air medical and healthcare industries. Teaching and serving others remain the most rewarding dimensions of his professional and volunteer experiences. He is honored to contribute as a regent and faculty member for the Medical Transport Leadership Institute (MTLI) and is committed to supporting the next generation of leaders in both air and ground medical transport.

Jonathan serves on the board of directors for Aeroterra Health in addition to serving as a board member for the Agency Board of Commissioners for Mecklenburg EMS (MEDIC). He is a former board member of the Association of Air Medical Services and is passionate about advancing the medical transport industry. His favorite aspect of the field is its impact on patients, especially in underserved communities, and the unique intersection of service with aviation.

Outside his professional life, Jonathan has a deep love of history, languages, and world cultures, shaped by his time living in several countries. His greatest joy is his family—his wife of 24 years and their five amazing daughters.

Leif Erickson serves as the Executive Director of the Flight For Life/ThedaStar air medical programs in Wisconsin. Leif brings more than 40 years of experience in ground and air medical transport, emergency services, education and healthcare management.  

Leif joined Flight For Life in 2005 as a Flight Paramedic and has since held several key leadership positions, including Education Coordinator, Operations Manager, and Director of Operations. His extensive tenure reflects a deep commitment to high-quality, safe critical care transport and organizational excellence.  

Leif has a strong academic background: Associate Degree in Fire Science from Milwaukee Area Technical College, a Bachelor of Arts in Healthcare Management from Ottawa University, graduate of the Paramedic Program at Gateway Technical College, studied Critical Care Medicine at the University of Baltimore, Maryland, and a Master of Business Administration candidate at Ottawa University. 

In his leadership role, Leif focuses on advancing Flight For Life’s clinical excellence, expanding research capabilities/evidence-based practices, strengthening partnerships with hospitals, fire/EMS agencies and communities, supporting staff to improve patient care outcomes, and supporting a strong culture of teamwork to ensure the highest standards of patient and crew safety on every mission. 

Leif’s education, experience, passion for critical care medicine, aviation and commitment to fiscal responsibility—combined with his dedication to providing essential transport services to communities across Wisconsin—position him to help lead AeroterraHealth confidently into the future. 

A proud West Virginia native, Clinton Burley has been a dedicated, proven leader in our nation’s emergency medical services systems since 1982. 

Clinton began his career as an emergency medical technician and has gone on to serve in nearly every facet of EMS — communicator, paramedic, flight paramedic, educator, manager, and senior executive for both community-based, statewide, and regional organizations.  

Since 2011, Clinton has served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of HealthNet Aeromedical Services, one of the nation’s premier not-for-profit air medical critical care transport programs. Under his leadership, HealthNet’s medical transport program expanded to include ground critical care, HealthTeam Critical Care Transport, as well. Today, the system serves more than 30,000 patients each year from 15 operational bases throughout West Virginia. 

Under Burley’s leadership, HealthNet has received prestigious awards including: 

• Association of Air Medical Services’ Program of the Year Award (2019) 

• NAEMT and American College of Emergency Physicians’ National Safety in EMS Award (2021) 

• West Virginia Hospital Association’s Program of the Year Award (2020) 

• WV Rural Health Association’s Organization for Excellence in Rural Health Award (2022) 

His commitment to service extends well beyond his professional roles. Clinton currently serves on the board of directors for the West Virginia EMS Coalition as Treasurer, chairs the Mountwest Paramedic Training Council and is Vice Chair at Aeroterra Health. He also contributes to numerous additional regional efforts, each focused on advancing emergency healthcare and improving outcomes for communities across Central Appalachia. 

He has spent more than 30 years teaching in higher education, helping train the next generation of EMS professionals through numerous emergency medical and management theory courses. 

A sought-after speaker at regional and national industry events, Clinton frequently shares about leadership, operational excellence, clinical quality, and safety in emergency medical services. Additionally, he consults with critical care transport programs across the country, helping strengthen operations and elevate patient care. 

Clinton and his wife, Melissa, are the proud parents of two adult daughters and live in the greater Huntington, West Virginia area. 

Adam Hornung is the current Vice President at Intermountain Health for Medical Transport, Telehealth, Clinical Command Center, and Outreach and Business Development. Adam has served in this role since the spring of 2023. Adam is an executive healthcare leader driven by a lifelong commitment to relieving human suffering through thoughtful intervention and system-level innovation. Beginning his career as a social worker, Adam developed a deep appreciation for meeting people at their most vulnerable moments—an orientation that continues to shape his leadership philosophy and strategic decision-making today.

Across senior leadership roles at the VA, Banner Health, and Intermountain Health, Adam has built a reputation for leading complex, mission-critical operations with clarity, compassion, and results. His work spans behavioral health, enterprise transformation, and large-scale service delivery, where he is known for aligning clinical purpose with operational excellence. At Intermountain Health, Adam played a pivotal role in the innovation and growth of the organization’s telehealth program, helping scale it into one of the largest and most complex telehealth operations in the nation—expanding access while redefining how care can be delivered at scale.

Most recently, Adam has led Intermountain Health’s Medical Transport division through a period of significant transformation. This included guiding the organization through acquisition and rebranding efforts, unifying six distinct programs under a single operational and cultural vision, and reconstructing the leadership team to support sustainable growth. Under his leadership, the division achieved marked improvements in financial performance while strengthening reliability, accountability, and team engagement.

Adam is recognized as a modern healthcare leader who thrives at the intersection of mission, innovation, and execution. He brings together people, strategy, and systems to build resilient organizations—always grounded in the belief that well-designed healthcare operations are ultimately about improving lives.

Tom Edminson is a seasoned healthcare and emergency medical services executive whose career reflects a deep commitment to service, strategic leadership, and the advancement of high-reliability medical transport. Throughout decades of frontline and executive experience, Tom has earned a reputation for guiding complex organizations through operational challenges and transformational change while maintaining a clear focus on mission, accountability, and culture. 

As President and Chief Executive Officer of MedFlight of Ohio and MedCare Ambulance, Tom leads two respected nonprofit medical transport organizations that provide critical care helicopter, mobile ICU, and ground ambulance services across the state. His leadership is grounded in an unwavering belief that disciplined systems, clear communication, and empowered teams form the foundation of exceptional patient care. These principles are central to MedFlight and MedCare’s continued success as they serve communities, ensuring timely, high quality care during life’s most urgent moments.  

Tom’s professional background reflects a broad spectrum of responsibilities across EMS operations, senior leadership, and organizational governance. He brings to his role a combination of academic preparation and field-tested expertise, holding advanced credentials including MBA, CEMSO, and NRP qualifications that underscore both his operational credibility and strategic capability.  

Throughout his career, Tom has placed particular emphasis on building cultures where accountability is shared, communication is intentional, and continuous improvement becomes part of the organization’s identity. His leadership style is shaped by years in EMS, where high stakes decision making, disciplined processes, and teamwork are essential. He brings these principles into the executive environment, translating them into practical leadership strategies that strengthen operational performance and organizational resilience. 

Beyond his internal leadership responsibilities, Tom is also engaged in broader efforts to advance the medical transport industry. He publicly champions collaborative initiatives focused on enhancing safety, sustainability, and system wide innovation, including MedFlight’s involvement in Aeroterra Health, an emerging multi-organization healthcare utility model designed to improve the long-term viability and quality of transport medicine.  

In every role he has held, Tom has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to improving the systems, people, and processes that support exceptional care. Today, he continues to guide MedFlight and MedCare with a vision rooted in service, reliability, and excellence, ensuring that both organizations remain trusted partners to patients, communities, and healthcare systems across Ohio. 

Dr. Stephan Russ is the Associate Chief of Staff at Vanderbilt University Medical Center overseeing a number of health system domains including patient flow, hospital capacity, medical transportation, transfer center operations and health system policy integration.  He completed a residency and chief residency in Emergency Medicine at VUMC followed by a two–year fellowship in Quality Improvement as a VA Quality Scholar.  He additionally completed a master’s degree in public health from Vanderbilt University.  Dr. Russ is a clinically active ED physician at Vanderbilt and the Nashville VA, and is an Associate Professor in Emergency Medicine.  He serves as the Executive Medical Director of Vanderbilt LifeFlight and has overseen the growth of the program to include significant expansion of the ground ambulance and event medicine service lines.  He directs the Vanderbilt EMS Center of Excellence and has been active in legislative issues to improve EMS services. 

Dr. Tomás Valdivia, MD, MS, is a distinguished healthcare executive, physician, and entrepreneur with over two decades of experience in healthcare technology, provider services, and health benefits. He currently serves as the Managing Partner and Director of the Mindshare Institute, Senior Advisor at InTandem Capital Partners, and serves on the Board of Directors of SSM Health, and as Chair of the Quality Committee at SSM Health.

Dr. Valdivia was a co-founder and former Chief Health and Equity Officer at Bright Health Group, where he played a pivotal role in developing innovative partnerships with health systems as the basis for several health insurance plan offerings. He has also held executive leadership positions as Executive Chairman of ClearVoice Health and co-founder of multiple healthcare companies, such as Carol Corporation-acquired by Optum-and Advanced Informatics.

His expertise spans founding and scaling healthcare ventures, advising on care delivery transformation, and implementing technology-driven solutions to improve clinical performance and patient outcomes. Dr. Valdivia has also served as Chief Health Consumer Officer at Definity Health (acquired by UnitedHealth Group) and has provided strategic guidance to numerous startups and provider organizations.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Computer Science from Carleton College, his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Minnesota Medical School, and a Master of Science in Medical Informatics from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Dr. Valdivia is recognized for his thought leadership in health equity, accountable care, and consumer-driven healthcare, and holds a patent for a system and method of drug-disease matching.

Dr. Valdivia continues to shape the future of healthcare through his advisory, board, and executive roles across the industry.

Brian Doughty is a native of Charleston, West Virginia. Mr. Doughty serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for HealthNet Aeromedical Services, Inc. (HealthNet), a not-for-profit aeromedical company headquartered in Charleston, West Virginia. Mr. Doughty has been with HealthNet since March 2012, and previously worked for Arnett & Foster, PLLC (now known as Baker Tilly). At HealthNet, his areas of responsibility include finance, business development, payroll and benefits, human resources, supply chain management and information technology. Mr. Doughty graduated from West Virginia University with Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Management Information Systems. 
 
Mr. Doughty is an Executive Board Member and past president of the Board for the Buckskin Council Scouting America. In June 2020, Mr. Doughty was appointed to the West Virginia Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council (EMSAC) by Governor Justice. In September 2022, Mr. Doughty joined the Board of The Association of Critical Care Transport (ACCT), a non-profit grassroots patient advocacy organization committed to ensuring that critically ill and injured patients have access to the safest and highest quality critical care transport system possible. He is a 2015 graduate of Leadership Kanawha Valley and 2017 graduate of Leadership West Virginia. In 2023, Mr. Doughty joined the Leadership West Virginia Board of Directors. He also volunteers for other civic and charitable organizations. Mr. Doughty resides in Charleston with his wife, Sara, daughters Claire and Grace, and their dogs Ruby and Scout. 

Fifty years of progressive experience in the development and management of not-for-profit hospital, for profit private, and public corporate services that have included emergency ground and air medical programs. BS in business with an emphasis in finance from Regis University. 

EMT/1975 Paramedic/1979. 1983 after having managed ALS ground-based services, helped start Flight For Life, Colorado Springs, Colorado. As Director of Prehospital Services, developed a program that included rotor, fixed wing, ground 911, and EMS education. 

1992 moved to the administrative side of Penrose-St. Francis Healthcare as an Internal Consultant on administrative and planning issues. From 1990 to 1994, 1998 to 2004, and 2010 to 2016 served as a board member of the Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS).  Current Board Member National EMS Memorial Service, and Board of Regents Medical Transport Leadership Institute. 

1995 VP Rocky Mountain Helicopters establishing department of Business Development and Government Affairs. Responsible for supporting the marketing, public relations, research, and new business development needs of RMH and its customers. Involved in the creation of the LifeNet product line of Alternative Provider Service and Cooperative Partnership Service programs of RMH. 

2002 Air Methods Corporation acquired RMH, became the VP of Business & Compliance for the new LifeNet Division that incorporated all the “independent” programs under one division. In 2006 became part of the senior team at Air Methods responsible for overall corporate and international development. 

2013 appointed Chief Executive Officer of joint venture HeliStar responsible for development and operations for opportunities in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. 

Upon sale of HeliStar establish the Yale Group, LLC. an association of domestic and international independent consultants specializing in all aspects of transport medicine.  

Advisor to multiple air and ground programs for expansion of service and performance improvement. Support clients during leadership recruitment, strategic planning, redesign, consortium evaluation, major asset acquisition, and new market development. Participated in due diligence for businesses acquisitions and integrations  >100M. Served as interim VP or Director for major air, ground and MIH programs during leadership absence and recruitment.  Adviser for multiple financial analysts, investors, and financial institutions related to transport medicine space. Helped develop international air/ground programs. 

Board Member to a Norwegian medical device company. Excitus.no 

Frequent speaker and author on the business of Aviation Medicine, serving on several governmental committees.  Founding Regent of Medical Transport Leadership Institute and Instructor 27 years.  Testified before Congress and NTSB on behalf and at request of the industry.  2016 recipient of Marriott Carlson Lifetime Achievement / Leadership Award.
